Peter Szijj, PhD

Peter hails from Budapest, Hungary, but lived in London, UK for a decade before moving to Stanford. He did his undergraduate (MSci) degree at University College London (UCL) in Natural Sciences, focusing on organic chemistry and cell biology, graduating in 2017. He then did his PhD at the UCL Department of Chemistry in the lab of Prof Vijay Chudasama working on developing click chemistry-based methods for protein-protein conjugation to generate bispecific antibody drug-conjugates, bispecific T cell engagers, and checkpoin inhibitory T cell engagers, graudating in 2022. After his PhD, he did a postdoc with Prof Lucy Walker at the Institute of Infection and Immunity at UCL continuing to work on bispecific antibody-drug conjugates. He joined the Bertozzi group in October 2023.

His scientific interests include click chemistry, bioconjugation, protein-protein conjugation, antibody drug-conjugates, imunotherapy and immune regulation.

In his free time, he enjoys many nerdy things such as board and video games, science fiction, and history. He has a passion for developing board games and dabbles in poetry. He also likes playing football (or soccer as it is known in these parts), cycling, bouldering, rowing, hiking and squash.
