Mikaela is a Bay Area native. Before coming to Stanford, Mikaela worked at Genetech in South San Fransisco, manufacturing commercial and clinical protein therapeutics. She received a BS in Biochemistry in 2020 from Loyola Marymount University. As a RAINS Undergraduate Research Fellow, she analyzed atmospheric hydrocarbons near subsurface accumulations of petroleum and investigated mRNA binding proteins. Mikaela complemented her research with industry experience at a material science company, microencapsulating thermochromic and photochromic dyes. She joined the Bertozzi group in 2021 as a Research Associate, working on glyco-targeting immune therapeutics. Mikaela is now a graduate student in the Chemistry department, a NSF fellow, and a part of the ChEM-H Chemical-Biology interface (CBI) program. She is a co-advised student with Dr. Mike Angelo in the Pathology department and her research focuses on glycosylation and lectin involvement in the tumor- immune microenvironment.
