David was born and raised in Grand Bahama, the northern most island of the Bahamas. Traveling to America for further education, David received his B.S. double majoring in chemistry and mathematics in 2016 at the University of California, San Diego, where he worked with Prof. Michael J. Sailor. David then earned his Ph.D. in materials chemistry and analytical chemistry in 2023 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison under the joint mentorship of Profs. Song Jin and Ying Ge. David’s doctoral work focused on establishing new intact protein, “top-down”, mass spectrometry (MS) compatible methodologies and functionalized nanomaterials to address the major challenges of the human proteome dynamic range and the analysis of complex proteins with post-translational modifications. David’s fascination with glycoproteins and the broader glycoworld led him to work with Prof. Carolyn Bertozzi to learn glycoscience and chemical biology. Here in the Bertozzi lab, David is taking an interdisciplinary approach by developing new chemical biology and top-down MS strategies to investigate the cell surface glycocalyx pertinent to human disease and to illuminate the complex and fascinating world of glycobiology.
