Anna (Ania) Howley
Anna (Ania) Howley is from the greater Boston area. She received her BS in Biology from the College of the Holy Cross, where her research focused on determining how different regions of the APOBEC3G protein contribute to its mutagenic activity in the context of HIV infection. After undergrad, she worked as a research technician in Donald Ingber's lab at the Wyss Institute at Harvard University. She developed an in-vitro model of Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome using shRNA-based knockdown in primary CD34+ progenitors, helped conduct drug and genetic screens, and investigated the effects of radiation-induced injury on human bone marrow. In the Bertozzi Lab, Ania uses mass spectrometry and proximity labelling to map the cell surface proteome for precise therapeutic targeting.
Outside the lab, Ania enjoys foraging for fruit around campus, playing guitar/drums, lifting weights, and hunting for edible mushrooms with her family.
