L worked in costume design and fashion in New York City before going back to school. They spent two years at Berkeley City College before transferring to the College of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. They spent a year researching the physical properties of organic aerosols in the lab of Kevin Wilson at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory before investigating synthetic routes to the anti tumor molecule pleurotin in the laboratory of Thomas J. Maimone their senior year. They graduated in 2018 as a National Science Foundation graduate research fellow. They are currently a PhD candidate co-advised by Noah Z. Burns. Their research involves utilizing novel chemical methodologies to synthesize diversified glycomimetics as potential therapeutics and chemical tools to elucidate the relationship between glycosylation and disease.
